Common questions
Why are my daylight minutes missing?
Outside reads Time in Daylight from Apple Health. A compatible Apple Watch records it automatically; your iPhone alone does not measure it. Check that the Watch has recorded daylight data in Health and that Outside has permission to read it.
If your Watch is new or you have not worn it outside yet, there may be no data to show. Outside requires iOS 17 or later.
Why are my minutes slow to update?
Apple Watch, Apple Health, and Outside may update at different times. Open Health to check whether the new daylight data has arrived, then return to Outside and refresh.
Daylight readings are estimates. Background and widget updates are controlled by iOS, so there is no guaranteed refresh interval.
How do I change Health access?
Use the Health access option in Outside’s Settings, or manage Outside’s read access in the Health app. Allow access to Time in Daylight.
Outside only reads this Health quantity; it does not write Health data or need location access.
How do I change my daily goal?
Open Profile and tap Daily goal. Choose a target that fits your day. You can change it again whenever you need to.
Your streak follows days when you reach your goal. Grass Passes can protect the streak on eligible missed days; they do not add daylight minutes.
How do I add or refresh a widget?
Touch and hold your iPhone Home Screen, choose Edit, then Add Widget and find Outside. Small and medium widgets show your daylight progress. You can also add an Outside widget when customizing your Lock Screen.
If a widget looks old, open Outside, let its data refresh, and check the widget again. Make sure Health read access is still enabled; iOS decides when widgets refresh.
Why did I not get my daily reminder?
In Outside’s Settings, turn on Daily nudge and choose a time. Make sure notifications are allowed for Outside in iPhone Settings.
Outside schedules at most one reminder a day and skips it when the app knows you have reached your goal. Focus modes, notification settings, and delayed Health syncing can affect what you see.
Where is my data stored?
Your Health readings and the progress derived from them stay on your iPhone. Outside does not require an account or location access.
